Area Guide to Odiham

21st December 2024

news-article

Odiham is a delightful Saxon village in Hampshire, with Basingstoke to the west and Farnborough and Aldershot to the east. It is small enough to offer a real sense of community while large enough to provide all the amenities and events you could need to enjoy day-to-day village life.

Here are some of our personal favourite things about Odiham…

There is more than you might expect going on in rural Odiham…

Odiham Castle

North Warnborough, Hook, RG29 1HQ

Odiham Castle, called King John’s Castle by locals, is an important historic site found to the north-west of the village. It was built in the 13th century, hosted the signing of the Magna Carta and held a Scottish king prisoner, before later falling to ruin.

Odiham Canal & Castle Walk

There are many beautiful walks in the area and this is a favourite. Starting at Odiham Wharf, the figure-of-eight, five mile walk has beautiful views of the River Whitewater and journeys along Basingstoke Canal. Find out more.

Kayaking at Galleon Marine Boatyard

Colt Hill, Odiham, RG29 1AL

Taking to the water is one of the lovely things to do in Odiham and this family-owned, accredited boat-hire company at the north end of Odiham village can help. Whether you would like to arrange a narrow boat holiday or take a kayak or rowing boat for a day trip, you are sure of a delightful new view of this lovely part of the country.

John Pinkerton Canal Cruises

Colt Hill, Odiham, RG29 1AL

If you prefer a professional at the helm, John Pinkerton Canal Cruises offers a range of canal cruises, all with a licensed bar available for hot and cold drinks. Why not try a themed event or private charter for a special occasion?

Odiham Common

London Road, Odiham

Clear away the cobwebs by spending time at Odiham Common. This Site of Special Scientific Interest is woodland pasture with abundant wildlife from fungi and plants to snakes, foxes, deer and badgers.

The Beacon

Apple Tree Cottage, Buryfields, Odiham, RG29 1NE

Odiham Beacon or Beacon Field is where a replica beacon stands and marks national celebrations such as jubilees. This is also a hub of the village where the annual fireworks display takes place.
