Swanwick is a secret gem when it comes to places to live in Hampshire. With beautiful green spaces, the River Hamble to the west, and an enviable location between Southampton and Portsmouth, you are in the perfect place for work and leisure.

Burridge is a small village found just to the north of Swanwick. The River Hamble meanders past and residents enjoy the same fantastic links to larger cities. Swanwick Marina

Historically famed for its strawberry growing industry, this area still delights residents and visitors with its beautiful green spaces and village charms. Head to Swanwick Marina and The Boat House Café for a relaxing coffee overlooking the River Hamble, or let the children burn off some energy at Burridge Recreation Ground.

Nearby Whiteley Shopping Centre offers fantastic retail therapy and a selection of popular restaurants and the larger hubs of Southampton, Fareham and Portsmouth are all within easy reach.

Swanwick Lakes Nature Reserve

Sopwith Way, Swanwick Lane, Swanwick SO31 7AY

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust manages this 35 hectare oasis of nature, which is mostly woodlands, with meadows and lakes. See if you can spot butterflies, dragonflies, bees and flowers, and listen out for birdsong as you explore, not forgetting to take the children to the education centre.

The Brickworks Museum

Swanwick Lane, Swanwick, SO31 7HB

Bursledon Brickworks was founded in 1897 and proved a successful industry for the local area. The deep, hand-dug clay pits provided the raw material and the river and railway provided excellent transport links for the finished product. The pits have now found a second life as the lakes of Swanwick Nature Reserve.

This superb local asset provides a hub for a range of regular activities and the perfect place to hire for your own events. Baby classes, yoga, Pilates, king fu and dance classes all take place on a weekly basis, so you are sure to find something that interests you.

Morning coffee, breakfast, brunch and lunch are all a relaxing, sociable occasion at The Boat House. The riverside setting makes this a delightful place to soak up the atmosphere and while away the hours.

Swanwick and Burridge education

Houses for sale in Swanwick and Burridge are popular with families and part of the reason is the great offering of schools nearby. In Swanwick itself, Little Gems Pre-School caters to the youngest residents while Fair Ways School supports those with social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

The nearby villages offer lots of school options and there are also plans to build more new schools in the local area.

Transport links

Swanwick and Burridge are both close to the M27 motorway which is a fantastic, fast link to the nation’s road network.

Swanwick has its own train station which can transport you to London in under two hours. If you are planning a trip to Southampton, the train will take 20mins, and the journey to Portsmouth is 30mins.

This part of the country is also spoilt with additional transport options: Southampton International Airport and Portsmouth’s ferries to the Channel Islands and France.
